Dorothy McCrank

Dorothy McCrank (known as "Dot" by her friends) is a Steambot from Tumbleton. She runs a small shop that trades in Ores and Gems for cash in SteamWorld Dig. Rusty sells his findings from the mine to Dorothy, who also guides him through his first steps as a miner. She is the daughter of Hank McCrank (known as Cranky to his friends).

Dorothy returns in the 2017 sequel SteamWorld Dig 2 as the protagonist. She has set out to search for Rusty, who disappeared after the events of SteamWorld Dig.

Appearance

She wears a red helmet with green-eyed goggles, with two appendages resembling twin tails. She is a blue Steambot with a red suit with golden legs and shoulders. She slightly resembles Samus Aran from the Metroid series.

She was redesigned for her appearance in SteamWorld Dig 2. In the sequel, the golden legs and shoulders have been replaced with red ones that match her torso, and she now wears a yellow scarf and carries a yellow backpack. She also now has a visible furnace on her abdomen.

Abilities (SWD2)

Sprint Hydraulics: The first ability Dorothy acquires. Allows her to run faster and jump higher than normal.

Pressure Bomb: Fires a ranged explosive that sticks to tiles and destroys them. Can also stick to enemies. Can later be upgraded to replace the sticky functionally for a bouncing variety that shoots up to three bombs at a time. Uses one bar of water per use.

Jackhammer: Similar to the Drill from SteamWorld Dig, can destroy brick tiles and uses water.

Hook Shot: Fires a grappling hook that can be used to reach places otherwise inaccessible. Obtained from Rosie in the Oasis. Later upgraded to the Long Range Grappler via an Upgrade Station in Ronald's Treasure Chamber.

Jet Pack: Propels Dorothy upward for a short amount of time. Can later be upgraded to destroy tiles and last longer.

Ignition Axe: Lights Dorothy's pickaxe on fire. Can be used to light lamps or deal extra damage to enemies. Obtained in the Temple of the Destroyer.

Ramjet Vigor: Weaponizes the Jet Pack allowing Dorothy to damage enemies and dirt while flying.

Ultra Composite Armor: Reduces the amount of damage taken when hit.
